An early well used colorful iromono kiita. This is a large unit and I am not sure what craft it was unsed for. The top surface of the stone is perfectly flat, worn evenly and well maintained. The kiita surface is 11.5mm by 12mm wide, and 8cm to 9cm at its widest. The kiita toishi is fixed to the wood and it will not come off.

I ask why, or, of which craft would demand a dai-wooden base to be so high like a bridge. And what lead up to so perfectly maintaining an abrasive that is so thin. The surface of the stone has been perfectly maintained; and surely used for a long time by a professional. I would suggest that the dai was made by the end-user for a specific craft. But why they would need or want a dai that places the stone that is resting 7 mm above the bench is beyond me.

The whole unit, stone and dai, weighs 1055 grans, is 30mm long and from side to side is 14mm wide. The stone sits 7mm above a bench top. The dai sits very stable on a table which might suggest it's original use. The underside was carved out with a chisel

The kiita is razor grade and I have honed several straight razors on it with very good results (clean comfortable shaves).
