#750 Nakayama huge thick koppa tomae
This koppa is perfect for chisels or as a pre-finishing stone for plane
blades. Probably from either the shallower Akapin or the Tenjyo layer it will
readily absorb water and will lightly self slurry with clear water and the stone
will leave hard steel with a bright chrome finish and a distinct contrast between
the hard hagane steel and the softer jigane wrought iron. If you use it with a
slurry the cutting speed is increased and the steel will be less shiny while
the softer wrought iron will look hazy. Using european mono steel blades
on this stone will provide the same results to the hard steel.
Lots of real estate on this stone, the color is tan and this is not an
actual kiita stone. The kawa skin on all four sides shows distinct
Nakayama characteristics including areas of sparkling black mineral
components. There are also 2 small spots of cream colored namazu
where these alternate water borne minerals have filled in inclusions
that are straight and also an indicator of a Nakayama mined stone.
The stone (toishi) has been lapped perfectly flat and the corners and
edges beveled unless otherwise noted. All of my stones come with a tested
and appropriately sized tomonaguara slurry stone, and a money back
guarantee minus the return shipping.
